Strawberry fields
by teknopipo on Jun.28, 2009, under Family, Friends

Last weekend was action packed! Me and Sini flew to Holland for a weekend. I had to open a bank account, but since I was going over there anyway, I paid some visits to friends and family. Strawberry picking, visiting mum and Jasper, coffee at grandma’s, Joost’s party, jamming with Zenn & Math @ the Hekellaan, Sini’s first visit to a 5 minute Goa rave
– too much to mention, really, so just look at the pictures.
And on request, here’s a short video that captures the last part of the ride to Weeze Airport, including the prices of the parking lots, if you can read it….
Liquor

If you want to get any sort of alcoholic beverage in Sweden, Systembolaget is the only place to go. This is one of the fine examples of Swedish we-know-what-is-good-for-you-policy. Alcohol is bad. So monopolic Systembolaget has carefully planned its opening hours on the times which are least convenient to you.
As a result, Systembolaget is always crowded as hell. People queue outside the store, and security guards funnel people in. Sometimes you find yourself lucky enough to make it into the store before it closes, only to discover that the entire store is also filled with people standing in line, blocking access to whatever liquor you had in mind.
So you’d figure that whenever someone does manage to make it to the beer section, they’d stack at least four crates of Grolsch or Carlsberg export on their trolley. But no. Nothing of the sort. In fact I’ve come to realize that the concept of “a crate” doesn’t even exist here. This communist system of indoctrination works. Swedes don’t desire crates of beer, because it’s bad for you. People don’t check out five gallons of Jameson. Instead, they stand in line for three hours only to carefully pick out two bottles of their favourite brand of beer, pay, and head on home!
Supermarkets only sell lättöl, which is basicly light beer with 2,5% alcohol. Or something. I just went and bought 12 half liters, which kind of averages out to a regular Dutch kratje bier. The cashier looked at me with wide open eyes and warned me that this kind of behaviour will surely give me a ölmagen in due time. People gave me ugly looks as I carried the stuff home. Children whispered to their parents. I’m an Englishman in New York
Feeble attempt at bandlogo

Not exactly my area of expertise, but with some googling and gimping I arrived at this here logo. If my fellow musicians like it, I’ll have some T-shirts printed so we can wear them on our next gig. Stay tuned!
